Not all oral health routines are created equal. Our Santa Monica dentists are here to help you take your daily dental cleaning care from OK to optimal.
In this short article we are discussing some of the simple things that you can do throughout the day, as well as when you clean your teeth morning and night, to keep your smile cleaner and more resilient. Let’s get started!
We are going to begin by talking about how you can upgrade your dental cleaning routine. You probably already know that you should be cleaning your smile every morning and every night. In order to get the most out of this routine:
· Floss your teeth at night, right before you brush your teeth—flossing at this time provides the most benefit for your smile
· Brush your teeth for at least two minutes every time that you brush—go ahead and set a timer, or listen to a two-minute song to help you keep track of the time
· Make sure that you are using the right type of toothbrush bristle—did you know that firm bristles can actually cause your enamel to thin and become weaker? Most dental patients do well with soft bristles, but you can always ask your dentist if you think that your needs may be different
There are also a few things that you can do throughout the day to refresh your smile:
· Drink water throughout the day so that your body is able to produce plenty of saliva (which naturally helps to neutralize bacteria and re-mineralize teeth
· Rinse your mouth with water after you eat or drink, as this minimizes the amount of time that bacteria can sit on your oral tissues
